Produced specifically for the ChangeNOW Communities x Christie's sale, "Mutation" is a sculpture carved in a stone resulting from innovation in the circular economy: anthropocite, produced from waste, by Neolithe.
DNA is common to all living cells and links all species, from bacteria to plants, humans and other animals.
Living organisms are constantly changing, innovating, adapting and evolving in the face of the limits imposed on them. Without limits, there is no evolution. But today, humans are confronting their way of life with their own conditions of existence. The limited resources of our planet are having difficulty keeping up with our human activities. Our pollution is having a lasting impact on our our environmental heritage, and even mutate our genetic heritage.
"Mutation" is a world in movement and transition. The sculpture, made of stone from industrial waste, rises from a stump, on its double helix strands, like a dancer balancing between two limits, those which condemn and those which make us evolve.
